RUMORS - "Where Neighbors Become Friends!"

Sand between your toes, the sound of waves crashing against the shoreline, a balmy sea breeze…these are about the only things missing from the beachy feel of Rumors Restaurant, located at 12339 Shelbyville Rd.

A favorite Middletown hangout since 1985, Rumors has succeeded in bringing a touch of the coast inland. The menu offers plenty of seafood, salads, sandwiches, and their signature buffalo chicken wings.

On the menu you will find an ambitious offering of shellfish. For oyster lovers, Rumors has fresh shucked oysters on the ½ shell, and steamed gulf coast oysters in a pail. For the connoisseur, oysters Rockefeller and hand-breaded panfries are also available. There is even an oyster shooter called the Rumor Boomer. If you love shrimp, you will not be disappointed. The menu boasts no less than 8 shrimp offerings, from shrimp cocktail, hot & spicy peel & eat shrimp, deep-fried butter flied shrimp, to grilled shrimp and pasta dishes. Grilled tuna, steamed Dungeness crablegs, and hand-dusted crawfish tails are just a few of the items that round off the seafood selections.

The backbone of Rumors' menu has been the success of their Buffalo style chicken wings. They are available in 10,20, and 50 piece quantities. These wings are plumb and meaty, not breaded. Something must be in the sauce to keep most of Middletown coming back year after year!

A wide assortment of sandwiches are also on hand. One can choose from huge ½ lb. burgers, grilled chicken breast, hand breaded cod, or a monster-ous Florida grouper.

There is a pleasant selection of dinner items including chicken alfredo, seafood pasta linguine, and grilled shrimp and scallop kabobs.

For lighter fare, Rumors has a good selection of appetizers, soups and salads. All of Rumors soups and sauces are made from scratch. Some stand-out appetizers are smoked tuna spread, spinach con queso, and BLT dip.

The décor of seasoned pine walls and tables puts you right at ease with a background of 50's & 60's tunes. Rumors' is very family friendly and has no trouble accommodating golf groups, ball teams, or family gatherings. An outdoor patio is open from spring to fall for those who like alfresco dining. The mood is very casual.
